The Dreaded Blue Screen of Death and How to Deal with It
We have come to depend on computers day in and day out for literally everything. This goes for personal as well as business. We rely on them for organization, data storage, record keeping, inventory, passwords, banking, communication, and the day-to-day operations in business.
You sit down, click the mouse and turn on the computer, be it a desktop, laptop, PC, or Mac. You just expect it to boot up and show you your desktop so that you can start up and get into whatever applications or programs you need to in order to get the ball rolling for the day.
When your computer freezes or starts acting up you automatically have to put everything else on hold. Often rebooting can correct whatever error is happening by allowing the computer to restart its code (train of thought) and ease back into the program correctly. But what happens when that reboot doesn’t do the trick? Or worse as you are sitting there pondering what could be wrong, all of it simply disappears.
You stare at your screen – there is no safe mode, there is no command prompt, no mouse cursor – nothing. Just a blank glaring blue screen of death.
This is when most of us start to legitimately freak out.
Our minds race, searching mentally for the last time we did a proper backup, fearing the worst.
What is the Blue Screen of Death?
The BSoD, Blue Screen of Death is actually known as a stop error. It signifies a potentially fatal system error, and your machine has placed itself in critical condition where it cannot operate properly and has experienced a termination of a crucial process. It’s important to realize that all work currently underway is immediately lost if not already saved. This is a part of why it’s a good idea to save as you go and backup daily.
What Causes the Blue Screen of Death to Appear?
You may have an application that conflicts with the operating system or another application already running. You may also have a piece of hardware that has gone bad. It can be brought on by excess dust accumulation, overheating, a bad graphics card, or many other things.
Is My Computer Doomed if The Blue Screen Appears?
Back in the day, say oh, 20 years or so ago, often yes. However, with the advances in computer technology, the BSOD doesn’t happen nearly as often, and it doesn’t mean automatically that you have to replace the computer. What you do need is a professional computer technician who is experienced and knowledgeable to take a look at it for you and help you to get it restored.
If you are having PC issues including the Blue Screen or diagnosis starts at just $75 and in most cases that will cover the cost of the repair.
